Living Nightmare by Shannon K. Butcher
Genre: Paranormal Romance
#4 Sentinel Wars
For nine years, the Sentinel Nika has had one goal-to save her younger sister from the Synestryn who hold her captive. Now, the psychic bond Nika forged with her sibling on that terrible night is fading, and time is running out. But the one man who can unlock the power inside her may be the greatest danger to her
I can’t believe I almost forgot(zies) this one was released in Nov. Shame on me! I was a wee (sorry I’ve been Google(ing) Irish baby names all day) disappointed in the last book, Running Scared because I thought the main character’s chemistry was not full throttle like I had read in previous books but I knew this one was going to be better.
What really makes Living Nightmare a good read is the richness of the side characters. Not only do you get the story of the main characters, Mac and Nika, but there are many side characters and plots that will eventually become full length novels. So, kind of like a value packed romance (pumps fist).
This series is a solid B for me and I’d recommend to anyone looking for a new(ish) paranormal series.
Play of Passion by Nalini Singh
Genre Paranormal Romance
#9 Psy-Changeling
In his position as Tracker for the SnowDancer pack, Drew Kincaid must rein in rogue changelings who’ve lost control of their animal halves- even if it means killing those who’ve gone too far. But nothing in his life has prepared him for the battle he must now wage-to win the heart of a woman who makes his body ignite…and who threatens to enslave his wolf
Ok, I’ve Twitter confessed this before, I’m kind of falling out of love with the Psy-Changeling books and yes, I realize K and I are the only ones on the planet that think this but as Popeye say’s “I am what I am”. As you can imagine I was hesitant to read Play of Passion because the last few books in the series just didn’t’ do it for me chemistry wise. After much tweeting, Smexybooks ‘smexy swear(ed)’ I would like this one so as usual I succumbed to book peer pressure and bought the darn thing.
Yes this book is sexier. Yes the chemistry has been pumped up. Yes it’s worth the $7.99 so you can read the few brief scenes between Hawke and Sienna. Yes, yes, yes (sorry, I was watching the Herbal Essence commercial while writing this). My only ho-hum was the ‘no I can’t be with you because I’m Alpha’ dominant’ back and forth(ness). Hell-lo, Drew is a prime piece of real estate and I felt the lady doth protest too much. But other than that I thought this latest psy-changeling brought the sexy back. And yes I WILL Be BUYING Hawke and Sienna’s book due out next year.

YAY, I’m so glad you will be with us to read all about Hawke’s romance journey with temperamental Sienna!! I kinda would’ve missed you
I also have book #3 of Shannon K Butcher’s series but I think I need to start in book #1 to understand it all. It’s definitely a series I keep on my radar. I’m actually already making a list what i bought this year and what i haven’t read…it’s staggering, shocking and very confrontational…I haz a BIG problem!
So for now Shannon K Butcher remains on the radar *hhmmm, how long will that last though?*
Whew..I didn’t want my smexy swear to be disappointing
This one reminded me of Branded by Fire….her shifters are more sexy.
But let’s face it..we are all waiting for Hawke….
Hawke. Be still my heart!
Nalini just said that she’s releasing only 1 Psy/Changeling series book next year. But 2 Guild Hunter books, and one of them is going to focus on Dmitri. Which I know is thrilling for a lot of her fans. Now, if she’d just give JASON his story, I’d be happy.
But I agree with Mandi, I’m never as happy when she decided to venture into the human world for a hero or heroine. I prefer a Changeling to always be either the hero or heroine. They’re just…hotter.
Two lovely mini reviews. I personal enjoyed these books too!
YEA! So glad you like Living Nightmare. I admit I like the Psi/Changeling match ups more then then just the changeling. Have you read Singh’s Angel series? OoooO verra hot & smexy.
@Leontine you are so organized! I keep track of what I read by checking my books on Goodreads *blush*
@Mandi I liked the first one the mostest, and yes I cannot wait for Hawke’s story. Let’s hope it comes out before my due date *crosses fingers*
@Kati ooo Dmitri is the hawt vampire, me likey.
@Ally
@Tori One word: Raphael. Heck yes I’ve read Singh’s angel series, like I can resist hot angels
It’s a little more darker than her psy-changeling series which is probably why I like it more.
Do we know what the next book is going to be out in Butcher’s series? Please say Grace’s story….
Nalini is on my wishlist. Looks like I’ll have to add Sentinel Wars to it as well. Something about that is interesting to me. Perhaps it’s the naked torso?
I’m glad you gave Play of Passion a chance!
