Hi all wicked lurkers and diabolical regulars of KC & K-Khan’s place!

This is my pick for the FAB (Freakin’ Awesome Book) of 2010; Kresley Cole’s PLEASURE OF A DARK PRINCE.

KC told me I could use phrases like; ‘oh my god’, ‘awesomesauce’ and ‘panty-twister’. KC, girl, I will definitely try *grin*

*steps up to the mic and clears throat*

The reason why -> The Scottish Lykae; Garreth MacRieve, period. *murmurs of confusion arise from the audience* What did you guys say? You need more on why this is a freakin’ awesome book? Really?  Hhhhmmmm, and there I thought a persistent Lykae with a Scottish bur and one who will drive any gal straight into sexyville to get some ‘oh my god’ and ‘sing hallelujah’ bed squeaking done was reason enough *wicked laughter*

If I told you PLEASURE OF A DARK PRINCE is code talk for ‘awesomesauce’ but also; half nekkid Demons and Lykae playing football. An action filled trip through the Amazon. A Valkyrie who has backbone, humor and gives said half nekkid Lykae a run for his money. Would you agree with me this is a FAB story? *sigh* And there I thought this was going to be the easiest argumentation evah!

One of the things I love so much about PoaDP is the opening. Where Garreth recognizes his mate in Valkyrie; Lucia the Maiden (Garreth’s pronouncement of the name is Lousha *girly sigh*). Their first encounter hums with a magnetic chemistry that becomes a beating pulse throughout the story. Imagine this picture: Garreth playing football shirtless and barefooted. Tall, muscular, sweaty, emanating raw masculinity, unadulterated male running free on a field of grass. Let’s take a moment to let that ‘panty twister’ image sink in shall we?  Then suddenly he smells his mate -> Lousha. She retreats back in the woods and Garreth gives chase. He wants to kiss here and to get him of her back Lucia does the following:

She shoots him once with an arrow…,

He still wants to kiss her.

A second arrow hits him…,

He still desires that kiss,

A third arrows sinks in his flesh…,

and Garreth corners her to steal a kiss from her, he meets his target, gets to kiss the girls and in answer she thumbs his wounds, kicks him in the groin and runs off.

You gotta love a guy who pines for a kiss like that. Let me give you Garreth and Lucia themselves:

Quote PoaDP: Yet when he pressed his erection against her, she cried, “Let me go now!” He didn’t, so she gouged her thumb into one of his wounds. His dark claws dug into the tree, but he didn’t release her. “Woman, that bluidy hurts.” “Then stop kissing me!”

“Nothing hurts that bad.” His mouth descended to her neck once more. He seemed to be not only kissing her“ but tasting her… gentling her. I can make it hurt that bad,” she said inanely, striving to keep her eyes open as his tongue darted. “I feel only one ache in my body.” He drew back, and the corner of his lips curled. “And you’re soon to ease it.” So earthy and sexy. Lucia couldn’t remember the last time she’d felt this much excitement with a male…. Her thoughts trailed off. No, I can remember the last time. Vividly. Lucia was still paying for it. She attempted to pull away, but he clutched her to him. And Freya help her, she wanted him to. No! No more pretending that she was a normal woman about to have a clandestine affair with the most sexually attractive male she’d ever seen. “Never, MacRieve.” She could be as vicious as any of her sisters. Just because a Valkyrie’s innate ferocity wasn’t her first impulse in a conflict didn’t mean she couldn’t draw on it when she needed to. “Kiss me again, Lykae, and I’ll make you regret it.” He kissed her again. So she kicked him between his legs, ducking from him. As he dropped to his knees, she hastened away. But she heard him grunt, “Still doona regret it.”

Okay…I’m a puddle of quivering want after reading this and Kresley Cole doesn’t let Garreth and Lucia get it easy but damn, when would you want easy when hard to get is so good! If you want a story that has the good stuff in smut, plot, characters and humor then get going, cause the IMMORTAL AFTER DARK series has it all. It is the chase of Garreth for his Lousha that makes this one of my FAB books of 2010.
