Eternal Kiss of Darkness by Jeaniene Frost – Mini Review & What I liked The Most(est)!
26 Jul, 2010 in Paranormal Romance 26 Comments#2 Night Huntress World
An immortal war has been brewing in the darkness…and now one woman has stumbled into the shadows.
Chicago private investigator Kira Graceling should have just kept on walking. But her sense of duty refused to let her ignore the moans of pain coming from inside a warehouse just before dawn. Suddenly she finds herself in a world she’s only imagined in her worst nightmares.
At the center is Mencheres, a breathtaking Master Vampire who thought he’d seen it all. Then Kira appears—this fearless, beautiful…human who braved death to rescue him. Though he burns for her, keeping Kira in his world means risking her life, yet sending her away is unthinkable.
But with danger closing in, Mencheres must choose between the woman he craves, or embracing the darkest magic to defeat an enemy bent on his eternal destruction
I admit, I was on the fence about reading Eternal Kiss of Darkness. Not that I didn’t enjoy First Drop of Crimson, but when an author gives you such memorable characters such as Bones and Cat, it becomes a bit hard to live up to that standard. EKOD starts off with Mencheres who is Bones’s mentor/Godfather/Grandfather in the vampire realm. Enter Kira who happens upon Mencheres being beaten by ghouls – thinking he was merely human she gets herself almost killed by saving him. Bu-u-ut he has no way of erasing her memories so she is forced to stay with him for one week until his blood wears off.
What I liked the Mostest
I think what I liked most about EKOD is Kira’s character. She is independent, loyal, and gets the crap beat out of her trying to keep Mencheres secret. My kinda gal.
Oh My Gah. The ceiling sexy time!!! The author always manages to ‘bring it’ with the vampire love scenes. I’ve been a fan of hers since Night Huntresses series infamous Chapter 32. Although Mencheres has been celibate for thousands of years, he can’t seem to resist the charming Kira. Even after he lets her ago he follows her to make sure she is safe. Yes, he is just that adorable. He also helps out with her sister’s illness and looks at Kira like a man who hasn’t had water in 3 days. The tension between these two characters simply sizzles off the pages. I kid you not.
My Itty Bitty Niggle
If there was one itty bitty teeny tiny thing that niggled me was I didn’t feel we really got to know Mencheres. Although we get glimpses of his past, after reading The End, his character remains somewhat of a mystery.
Bottom Line if you are sitting on the fence on this one, hop off, shake your tail feather (sorry I’m listening to Hits 90 on Sirus) and get thee to a bookstore. Yes, we all know this isn’t going to be what I dub Cat and Bones books, but EKOD still brings it! Eternal Kiss of Darkness is a solid read filled with tension, loyalty, sensual vampire bites and sexy time on the ceiling!

The ceiling sex killed me, all I could imagine was orgasm fail…face plant onto the floor. My legs don’t work on the best of days, how the hell you figure I’m not just going to collapse
Hmmm I am kinda bummed that we STILL don’t get to really know Mencheres but with you and WLP saying it’s better than the last one, I AM SO IN. I got my copy this AM with City of Ghosts. And besides, the ceiling sex lure has me SOLD. I am a cheap slut like that

@Janna Gasp, I’m sorry. My eyes are not working well today. You’ll love EKOD!!!
@Erotic Horizon Verra nice, I love when a book has great chemistry and sexual tension.
LOL! That’s okay, KC.
I desperately hoped it wasn’t on purpose.
That guy on the cover always reminds me of Brad Pitt from “Interview with The Vampire”. Love it!
Buuuuut, I haven’t read this author or series. I know, I deserve to be dumped in tar and feathered for my tardiness but I promise to remedy this at some point. I’m off to a good start, I already have the first three books!
Great review, glad you liked it and I’m dying for this mysterious Chapter 32.
@VFG OMG you must read Cat and Bones books aka One Foot in the Grave, At Grave End, etc. There are 4 books and Bones is hands down one of the sexiest heros I’ve read in a book series.
@Janna I’m sorry I forgetizes you.
Thanks for the great review, K.C.! So glad you liked the book.
@Jeaniene Frost thanks for commenting and thanks for giving us Chapter 32.
I’m so glad I got it! I’ve loved every other JF book I’ve read (all of them, of course. Who could say no to Bones?), so this one was a must have too.
Great review. Thanks!
@Anilu Magloire wave it around proudly!
Melissa Marr was just bragging she was reading the 5th Cat and Bones! Squee!

*sneaks in and tries to steal book*
You had me at sexy time on the ceiling!
@Melissa Gasp, tis mine!!!!!
I cannot for the life of me remember what happened in Chapter 32? I mean, those books left me with VIVID memories, but I can’t remember which one took place in ch. 32! Help a girl out!
Also, bring on Ian’s book!! I always have a soft spot for the biggest asshole in the room!
@Kindlelicious marathon vampire sex in Chapter 32 (2nd book in Bones and Cat series). He keeps biting her in inappropriate place *bites nails*
@Kindlelicious and he coughcough does something with lube coughcough
Ah, the biting and lube, got it! LOL I clearly need to read them again!
Sounds delicious! My interest has bee peaked because of your review and synopsis. Should I be thanking?
Thank you anyway. Why have I not read it before?
I shall be on the hunt for that hot steamy vamp on the cover
