Stefan Joss just can’t win. Not only does he have to go to Texas in the middle of summer to be the man of honor in his best friend Charlotte’s wedding, but he’s expected to negotiate a million-dollar business deal at the same time. Worst of all, he’s thrown for a loop when he arrives to see the one man Charlotte promised wouldn’t be there: her brother, Rand Holloway.
Stefan and Rand have been mortal enemies since the day they met, so Stefan is shocked when a temporary cease-fire sees the usual hostility replaced by instant chemistry. Though leery of the unexpected feelings, Stefan is swayed by a sincere revelation from Rand, and he decides to give Rand a chance.
But their budding romance is threatened when Stefan’s business deal goes wrong: the owner of the last ranch he needs to secure for the company is murdered. Stefan’s in for the surprise of his life as he finds himself in danger as well.
I was doing what I normally late at night (scouring Goodreads for my next man love book) when I came upon this gem. Some reviews were good others were just okay, but as I closed my eyes and listened to my inner m/m voice it said. “Do it KC. Buy it NOW” (surprisingly my inner voice sounded a lot like George Takei .)”
Have you ever read a book and it just worked on all levels: humor, drama, tension, well timed dialogue and sexy scenes. Charlotte and Stefan have been BFF’s since college due to a scheduling error at the register’s office, that paired a Charlie and a Stefan. It was platonic love at first site. Fast forward a few years and Charlotte is getting married and Stefan is the Man of Honor. Most of the book takes place before the wedding where the author gives us many moments of hilarity and laugh out loud moments.
Charlotte’s brother (Rand) has been a d-*-c-k to Stef since they first met and the first words out of Rand’s mouth ” so you are the *bleep (substitute a not very nice thing to say to a gay man). Since this awesomely bad getting off on the wrong foot, Rand and Stef have been enemies. Stef is less than happy when Rand not only shows up at his BFF’s wedding but is trying to make amends. WTH? Stef is not willing to wave the white flag just yet no matter how good looking Rand is in his cowboy boots.
I cannot tell you how big of a grin I wore reading the Timing. It read more like a movie with witty dialogue, snort-inducing humor and a delightful romantic twist. My favorite scene is when Stefan and Charlotte are making up after a emotional weekend. When she suddenly see Stef she screams and jumps into his arms, kissing him all over and telling him how much she needs him despite the fact that she is getting married. He was squeezing her so hard she farted. I died. I laughed so hard I woke up my husband who was asleep on the second floor.
KC (and K-Khan) give our stamp of approval and thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of the book.

I’m just a few pages away from the end of this book. I’m really enjoying it. LOL, I loved the farting scene.
Why do you do this to me? I am broke you heartless wench! But I needs this book. You hooked me at farts.
Farts? Oh god, now I have to read this book. It just sounds so freaking good. I hate you hooka – now I am going to buy this and find somewhere to hide it from the hubs. My Shug is not down with me reading the man love. All for gay rights just not me reading about it. I don’t get it, but whatever.
I have it and obviously need to start it soon!
@Lily that scene was my favorite par, lol!!!
@Tori-ggs*_closet *sob* me too *hiccup* I went to buy another book by this author, checked my book budget and I had zero dinero. I can’t buy a book until Friday, tis torture.
@Lily most hubs do not understand our need to read m/m. Ebooks are awesome, you can read ‘em anywhere!!!
@Chris I think you’ll likey. This is my favorite book I’ve read from this author.
George Takei? Farts? ROFL I wanna hear your thoughts! …. OR do I?
Well this is going in the “must be bought asap” list, that’s for sure. Anything that’s snort inducing yet has drama and tension has got to be read. I really liked the one book I’ve read by Calmes so far. Thanks for the review!
I was sold already when you tweeted about Timing a couple of days ago!
@Melissa George Takei and I often have an inner monologue while man love shopping on Goodreads
@Tracy Since I’m such a book hoe, I’ve downloaded almost all of Mary Calmes books. There goes my book budget
@Janna I can’t wait for you to read this one.
You didn’t tell me this had farting in it, KC. I would’ve got it ages ago just for that.
So glad you posted a review. I was on the fence about this one. I have such a love hate relationship with the Matter of Time series – more love most of the time. I will definitely read this one now.
@Kris I like this one mucho better than Matter of Time less soap opera(ie) and no cliff hangers. And yes, there is farting – tis a win win.
@Samantha I couldn’t stand the over the top angstiness of the Matter of Time series, this one was nothing like that. Thank god.
Anything that makes you snort has got to be good right? LOL
I can’t help myself with the Matter of Time series. Sam Kage just does something to me even though most of the time I felt like throwing something while reading them.
@Fiction Vixen I laughed so hard I fell off the couch, true story.
@Samantha God when Same leaves Jory *gets choked up* FOR 3 YEARS I couldn’t quite forgive him as easily as Jory. See, I’m too emotionally invested in the Matter of Time series.
Sounds like fun. I’ll have to check out a non-Kindle version! I’m reading James Buchanan’s All or Nothing series at present (just about to start bk2) and I read the William Cooper Short, Broken Bones, Mended Hearts (which I won from you lovely ladies – thx again, what a fun little story!) and I picked up You Give Love a Bad Name by Laney Cairo after a recommendation from Kris. Plus, one of these days I’m gonna start Shades of Gray – I didn’t want to read it too close to Zero at the Bone. When I has some more money, I will look up Timing. (I’m sure if I stopped visiting book blogs my wallet would be happier but would I be? Me thinks nope).
I loved this book, drama and all. It was cool beans and I totally loved that scene too!!
