Like most relationships, I’ve had my ups and downs with the brothers, but damn if I just can’t say no, and mutter ‘ I wish I could quit you’. I prayed Ward wouldn’t let me down even going to far as to light all my candles and make a few wishes. So I took a yoga breath, made sure I went potty, and told Mr. Smokin’ to piss off for four hours. I. Was. In. The. Zone.
The ‘Sitch’
Lover Mine begins with a delicious trifecta of man meat, aka. JM, Qhuinn, and Blay. Lover Avenged, left us with a whopper of a cliffhanger as Xhex had been kidnapped by Lash – which leaves John Matthew thinking that Xhex isn’t going to be coming back. Thus why he is in a tattoo parlor with V’s secret concoction of ink wanting to immortalize her on his skin. Permanently. (starts fanning self). Meanwhile, Xhex is in an invisible prison, being roughed up by that sick, rat-bastard Lash. Whoa, he is one sick puppy and I can’t for the Brothers to end his ass, True. Bruised and starving, Xhex wishes she hadn’t left things as they were with John Matthew (Smokinhot Cliff Note: remember she wouldn’t let JM kiss her during sexy time).
Meanwhile Blay is in love with Qhuinn, and Quinn is well, still being Quinn, meaning he’s sexin’ his way through the human and ‘civilian’ female populations. It seems the only person that Qhuinn won’t sleep with is Blay. Qhuinn, in his typical fashion, knows that Blay has feelings for him but all he can offer is a fist bump and a decanter of liquid fire. He can’t give up his dream at leading a normal life. (the glymera will never accept a homosexual Brother with two different colored eyes). Qhuinn just can’t keep his feelings bottled up for much longer especially when Blay meets his cousin Saxton. (FYI Saxton is a charmingly sexy man!)
This Book was ‘Boss’
Lover Mine is probably Ward’s best book to date and makes up for any disappointments I may have felt with previous AZ* BDB books. (Smokinhot Cliff Note: AZ =After Zadist).

He paused and looked over his shoulder toward the bed.“I love you.”
His handsome face tightened in pain, and he rubbed the middle of his chest, as if someone had fisted up his heart and squeezed it dead.
And then he turned away.
As she hit the confines of her prison…

John Matthew
John locked eyes with her and was instantly transported to a different plane of existence. Mighta been heaven again. Who the f*ck knew or cared. All he knew was that there was only her and him together, the rest of the world drifting away in a fog.
Was it possible to fall in love with someone twice, he wondered dimly.
JM has always been my favorite Brother and I liked that Ward didn’t try and get all angsty’ with Xhex & JM’s relationship. After surviving a trauma that would destroy most others, they deserved a little happiness; they’d been through enough. And let’s face it, my poor heart couldn’t take another rodeo down heartache lane. ( cries out ‘Qhuay’)
Blay:
(Qhuinn the ho’, is having sexy-time…again)
Better than the full bifta. Especially because Qhuinn was beautiful to watch when he had sex. Just….beautitful.
Back when Blay had tried to do the hetero thing, the two had tag-teamed a number of human females – not that he could have recalled any of the women’s faces, bodies, or names. It had always been about Qhuinn for him. Always.
For those you sitting on the fence, wondering if you should shell out the mulah for hardback pricing of Lover Mine YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPOINTED (<– notice the caps for extra ‘I’m really serious guys’)! Ward gets back to her romance roots in LM and does a stellar performance with John Matthews story.

I’m glad you liked the book. I still haven’t read it yet. I’m waiting for my turn at the library. J.R. Ward became a library read for me AB (after Butch). Though I did buy Rehv’s book but that’s only because the hardcover was on the discount table at Wal-Greens for some ridiculously low price like $5.00 or something.
I see all the great reviews, but I’m still leery on buying. I think it’s because of the misc. subplots that I’m hearing about. I want to make sure that the focus is back on the romance and all the subplots focus on the romance first. Plus, even though every one says how great Xhex is in this book, she was never one of my favorites. So I’m leery about that too!
Ya’ll are really twisting my arm here…aren’t you. Gushing about these characters and making me want to go buy all of the series so I can read it and gush too.

@Lynette Ward get’s back to her romance routes in LM, she doesn’t have as many side developments just Blay & Qhuinn which is interesting. She mainly focuses on Xhex and JM, also we get to see Xhex’s softer side. I liked that Ward didn’t try and pull the angsty angle overly much with JM & Xhex, it was about him finding her and her realizing (already) how much she truly cared for him. One of the best BDB books thus far.

I think ending the series with Tohr’s HEA would be a cool full-circle kinda thing. But man, thinking about this is making my no-LM-on-Kindle protest even harder to maintain!

JR has already said that they will be (eventually after the BS) Each other’s HEA. However, I’m thinking it “might” involve Layla, so maybe M/M/F. But I would rather it stay M/M.

What a great review, I loved everything you said & you said it well. If you asked me what my favorite book was it would be Rhage & Mary, but when you ask which Brother, I honestly can’t tell you. I love them each separately for many different reasons. I can’t just pick one, really I can’t I am in love with them all. And I have a free pass with my sweetie, that if ever they magically come life and one of them (I don’t care who) come knocking on my door, I will run right over him to get to them. Yes I am that bad!
Ooooooo, I want to read this so bad! The Kindle issue has kept me LM-less or I’d have already finished the book! I don’t know about it being available in May because when you look it up, it shows no Kindle listing. I know someone emailed the publisher about the no kindle situation and they reccommended she buy and iPad. Grr… I may have to go buy the hardcover now, even though that’s just what the publishers want. It’s hard for me to choose my favorite Brother! I think it between JM and Zsadist. I love their strength in dealing with the Hell of their younger years. I’ve love JM since the very first book and I can’t wait to finally read his story.

Gawd, I am so on the fence!! I was just talking to a friend the other day and reminiscing about back in the day and when I would run, not walk to the bookstore for one of Ward’s new releases. After being caught up in the waiting angst, remember that rush of releif when you finally had the book in your hands and you’ve cleared the day of anything else but the BDB? Wow, have times changed, at least for me.
I’m just not into Ward and her world anymore. Hell, her Fallen Angels book….what was the title?…Can’t remember it nor have I even wanted to read it. Isn’t that crazy? And now with JM’s release, I’m just so-so. I’ve ordered the book but I know when I get it, I’m not going to be reading it anytime soon. Even with the great review you and Mandi delivered, I’m still like…whatever about it. I think I must be sick or something.

@VFG Oh my god Covet was a dud compared to LM. Ever since Zadist’s book I’ve haven’t really enjoyed the BDB books, but seriously you won’t be disappointed with LM, Ward focuses mainly on Xhex and JM’s relationship and Qhuinn & Blays. I think you’ll like it, no I just turned into a ghost but we can still be mates thingy, or talking wizards *crosses heart*
I’m so angry with Qhuinn as this moment. I hope Blay gets his rocks off with Saxton.

Kickin’ review sister! Love your take on the BDB world! I gave the book 4.5 stars… I have to say I agree that it is by far the best AZ book… Loved that term.
As for your questions… Mandi answered them all. But I do think that Blay and Qhuinn will get their HEA m/m style. They will still have to feed from a female – they cannot survive without it. I had read Ward was going to either put their story in a book or in a novella. Mandi told me tonight she read on Ward’s forums that she’ll probably do a novella.
What will happen to poor Layla. I’m so sad for her right now. Poor, poor girl.
My favorite brothers are Wrath and JM. I *heart* them both.

Tapping my toe impatiently – no Kindle version of Lover Mine yet. My poor carpal tunnel afflicted wrists really don’t like to hold heavy things so I rarely read hardbacks anymore, especially ones with 500+ pages. I’m so mad at the publishers. They are so busy trying to kill the ebook market to support of their short-term hardback profits that they forget that many of us choose to read ebooks because of physical limitations.
@twimom227 Thanks to Ferishia’s video, Ward talked about making Qhuinn and Blay’s story a novella so there is hope it won’t turn into Qhayla!!!

OH MY GOD that broke MY HEART. Saxton ADORES Blay so he SO deserves Saxton right now even if he ultimately ends up with Qhuinn. I just hope good comes for Saxton since it seems that he’ll be getting squeezed outta that equation!!!

I am dying to read the new book, I do hope eventualy Tohr will find a new mate, obviously Wellsie can not be replaced but hopefully he will get a second chance at love and I do hope Payne gets a book and will maybe be the first chick (kick ass) to become a “Brother”

I just started Phury’s book this week and I’m sloshing my way thru, making the best of it since there is so much JM/Qhuay as well as that juice purple-eyed pimp Rhev to get me through it…since fo sho, I want to smack Brother Phury on the head and scream, GET WITH IT GDIT! Sheesh, anywho…I’m not sure who Tohr will end up with, me maybe?
My favorite broter is hands down, Vishous. He is smart, kinky and has a goatee so, SOLD!

as I refuse to even entertain the notion that the BDB series will EVER end, I have no answer to this other than: I want them all, bring it on!
I had to wait to comment til after I read the book. You are so right about this book. SO worth the hardcover money….SO worth it. I will be rereading this one several times.
I got my Z fix a couple of times in it:) SOOO fricking much going on in it…. Payne, Murhder (sp), Quinn/Blay geesh, just slap me now.
I loved all the books, but Phury’s. I don’t know why, but that one bogged me down except for the fact that Z was in it. LOL I thought he was kind of whiny.
All the fight scenes with John and Xhex together were AWESOME…a cool take on the fights when they would watch each other.
SOOOO right on with this book. JR gets back to her roots and those of Darius….it was jaw dropping fantastic…the last 40 pages were bittersweet as I did not want the book to end but had to keep reading to get it done! This is by FAR the best book in the series, and I ‘m a HUGE Wrath and Z fan! I was unsure about Xhex going into this book as she has not been one of my favorite people, but I love her now as much as I do JM/Darius – one whole! She also introduces some new (yet OLD) characters in this book, leaving me with the relief that there are at least 4 – 5 more books to come. Cheers to JR Ward…you got this one 100%!
Dead On Review!! Couldn’t agree more about this being the “best AZ” book… though Z/B will always be my OTP! Ward Rocked this book and has regained my complete and total respect. I was counting down since Jan. for this one, went out at my lunch on the 27th to buy it so I didn’t go home w/o it, and stayed up till 2. Being a mom it took me till Thurs. to get the job done, but I loved every minute of it! Now I just can’t wait to get me some more “Qhuay* <3 I'm afraid I agree though that it will end up M/M/F *sobs* I'm also pretty sure they won't get their own book, so we'll be forced to read their relationship b/w the lines of the others.
I’m not over Wellsie’s death either! And I certainly don’t want to see Tohr with anybody else. Maybe when we learn more about No’one I’ll change my mind, but I don’t think so. Lover Mine wasn’t my favorite BDB book, but I still enjoyed it. I really liked the flashbacks to Darius and Tohr and I hope she’ll do more of this in future books.
I hope J.R. doesn’t go the m/m/f route with Qhuinn and Blay. I asked her about that relationship at a book signing this past spring. She said that she would probably put them in a novella instead of a complete book (bummer!) since she wasn’t sure how some people would take that M/M storyline. I was glad it was to continue somewhere but also a little disappointed that it wouldn’t be a huge book. My thought is c’mon it’s the 21st century. I think we can take it and then some. I think all of her readers can take it. I really do hope she changes her mind on that one. BTW, for those of you who really want to read a story about Qhuay before that check out the blog Date with Destiny. Heather M. has created a fan fiction beginning where J.R.left off in Lover Mine. I am salivating just waiting to read it all the way through. The pages I have read are awesome!

I never thought of the blood requirement! Bummer! I want these two to have true love with no others attached. But you are probably right what with them having to feed.
@Anita maybe they can have the Chosen on speed dial *crosses fingers* and won’t have to get all hanky panky with any girl
