Some of My New Favorite Fanged and Fabulous Series

Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress Series

This is one of the best vampire series that I have read to date! Cat Crawford is not your average young woman. She was born half-vampire and half-human after her mother experienced an encounter with a newly turned vampire. After years of listening to her mother’s bigotry regarding her half-vampire heritage Cat sets out to find and kill her father as revenge for raping her mother. Cat needlessly risks her life posing as ‘bait’ to horny vampire males and this is where we get to meet the illustrious Bones.

Bones is one of the best male characters I’ve read to date. Each time you read him on a page, it makes you want to giggle like a teenager. Never before have I been so interested in a couple after they have gotten together. Frost does such an amazing  job keeping your interest in Bones and Cat’s relationship throughout this entire series.

Most Memorable Scene

Cat is bleeding on the forehead.

Bones crouches down in front of Cat preparing to help with her wound, when she bats his hand away and mutters “Bones there are other people that are actually wounded”

Bones “Kitten, you always come first” {insert swoon here}

This series is not to be missed!

Molly Harper’s Nice Girls Don’t Have Fangs

Is a fun series that has a fresh, wry sense of humor.  I found myself giggling and snickering while my husband kept asking me what was so funny. After a couple of shoulder shrugs and rolling of the eyes (apparently a sign of disrespect), I was sent on a time-out to the bedroom until I could learn to ‘communicate like an adult’. After finishing the book and having to say three nice things about my husband I couldn’t help but re-read all my favorite lines.

Maybe it was the Shenanigans gift certificate that put her over the edge. When children’s librarian and self-professes nice girl Jane Jameson is fired by her beastly boss and handed twenty-five dollars in potato skins instead of a severance check, she goes n a bender that’s sure to become Half Moon Hallow legend. On her way home, she’s mistaken for a deer, shot, and left for dead. And thanks to the mysterious stranger she met while chugging neon-colored cocktails, she wakes up with a decidedly unladtlike0thirst for blood.

Most Memorable Scenes

Jane has just recently become a vampire and her ‘sire’, Gabriel is teaching her the ropes.

“You can just wipe his memory?” I asked. “Can I do that? Because I’d kind of like to get my uncle Dave to stop telling the story about me flashing my panties at his wedding reception.”

Gabriel stared at me.

“I was three,” I explained. “Pink panties were a big deal”.

Jane best friend Zeb has just found out she is ‘undead’.  He has stabbed her numerous times and has made her jump off the roof just to test her healing capabilities.

“Funny.” I grimace. Zeb was looking around, scanning the porch for something. “You want to stab me again, don’t you?”

He didn’t look at all ashamed. “Think of it as testing the limits of your new abilities.”

I groaned. “I’ve created a monster.”

“I don’t think someone who recently crawled from the grave should be throwing around labels like ‘monster,’ he said, making sarcastic little air-quotes finger.

“It wasn’t a grave.” I sniffed. “It was a comfy four-poster.”

Chloe Neil’s Chicagoland Vampire Series

For those of you who liked Ilona Andrews Kate Danile’s series then you’ll be just as enraptured with Ms. Neil’s Chicagoland vampire series. Merit is an undergraduate student who had the misfortunate of being at the wrong place and wrong time. Left for dead after being bitten by a vampire, she is changed into one by the Master of the Chicagoland Vampires, Ethan.  She’s sarcastic, understated but beautiful, and somehow always get’s herself in trouble.

They killed me. They healed me. They changed me.

Sure, the life of a graduate student wasn’t exactly glamorous, but it was mine. I was doing fine until Chicago’s vampires announced theirexistence to the world-and then a rogue vampire attacked me. But he only got a sip before he was scared away by another bloodsucker… and this one decided the best way to save my life was to make me the walking undead.

Warning: Once you start this book you won’t be able to stop. I stayed up till 2:oo am  to finish this series. Totally worth it.

I was recommending Jeaniene Frost to my SIL yesterday, and I googled “Jeaniene Frost Chapter 32″ and sent her the link – she’s curious enough to start reading the series!

  7. Great series…I really hope Molly Harper gets contracted to write a fourth NG book. I do hear she has a werewolf series coming out with the same type of humor :)

  8. I already have Frost’s books in my TBR pile. Your descriptions now have me wanting to run out and get the rest of these books. My TBR pile is already teetering. Darn you!

  9. after swearing off vampire books for a year, the YA series Vampire Academy is getting me back into the swing of things, and your post definitely give me more of an urge to “bite” back into them too! i’ve heard bits and peives about all the series but this is a great sum up post of new-to-me series for recommendations!

@Patti OMG Chap 32 {Swoon} best chapter ever written in PNR

@Mandi I think you pimped out 90% of the books listed above tee-hee. If you could pick one vamp series what would your fav be?

@Eva The curse of all book bloggers is following other book bloggers & causing your TBR pile to groan. Thank god there is good reads for me to keep track :)

@Lusty Reader I feel you on vamps are so last year vibe, after Twilight I didn’t want to see sparkles and fangs for awhile. But then I came across the series above and like that *snaps fingers* I was saying “bite me”. Frost series is my favorite.

  11. I have Nice Girls…sitting on my shelf awaiting my attention. Smexy says it’s a must read. You already know how I feel about Night Huntress…omg. :) And I’ve never read Chloe Neil. I’m feeling the peer pressure :)

  12. I have Frost on Mt. TBR and even though tempted by the other ones I am NOT doing it.
The Harper and Neill books are tempting…tempting….so tempting….but as of coming month I am on a strict bookbudget until I find a job…and as these are genres that are not at the top of my fave list, they are

You know how high Mt. TBR is and every day I add more books to it…I must try and evoke my new year’s resolution of more reading and less buying but doing a poor job of it :( With the obligatory bookbudget I might be able to pull it off though… (she said soooo hopefully)

    Hugs,
    Pearl

  13. I am happy to say that I AT LEAST have the first – if not second of all these books mentioned. I feel like such a big girl!!!! Finally, I have books that someone is talking about, lol!!!! thanks for feeding the addiction!!!

    And a side note… Girl… I am eating up Lauren Dane’s book… Laid Bare, Coming Undone… and OMG… Inside Out!! I thought I was a hussy till I got a hold of them… OMFG!!!!!
I just finished reading LB and can NOT wait to review it at my place, hee hee!!!

  14. @FV I really liked Chole Neill kind of reminds me of Karen Marie Monings Fever series. Ethan is a bit like Barrons, aloof, sexy, & mysterious.

@Pearl I have a separate bank account for my book budget. I always go over ::Sigh:: My weakness is ebooks. Good luck finding a job hon.

@Cecile Hands down Laid Bare one of the best erotic romance books I read in 2009 {excluding m/m} I wish she’d write more m/m/f. Her covers are amazing & make me want to run out and get inked. Perhaps a phoenix on my lower back?

  15. I love all of those series! Good picks. Seeing them on your blog makes me want to read them again…

  16. @Caitlin I think this weekend I will re-read the Night Huntress series to get my Bones fix.

  17. I need to get reading. *ducks* I haven’t read any of those yet.

  18. Love the cover to this she looks smoking hot !

  19. @Fallon Word on the street – if you don’t read these books the evil book fairy will haunt you, like forever.

@Jessica Jeanine Frost’s covers are amazing. I could stare at them all day. Maybe I do. Maybe I have a book shelf shrive. Maybe I’m not making any of this up.

  20. I’m already die-hard for Chloe Neill and the other two series have definitely been on my radar. I loved your “most memorable scenes”, K.C. The one with Cat and Bones is sooooo swoon-worthy. I’ve gotsta get my butt in gear!!!

    Hugs, VFG

  21. Hehehe. You got time-outed.

  22. I absolutely love the Night Huntress series, I’ve already reread the series twice..Bones is so hot and I love the alcohol guzzling Cat..The Chicagoland vampires series is great as well… Ethan is so yummy and evil..now I’ll definitely have to try the Molly Harper series if it ranks up there with 2 of my other fav authors.

  23. @VFG Ethan *makes ecstasy noises* Jeanine Frost has the infamous Chapter 32 Book 2 devoted entirely to sexy time between Cat and Bones. Worth it.

    @Kris Say whaaat?

@Heather Molly Harper does humor really well, not as good as Frost and Neill with suspense but her funiness makes up for it. I mean how can I not love a main character that drinks mudslides and says “verp”?

  24. I want to read the Nice Girls Don’t…trilogy. It’s like a fun read. And definitely I agree with you on the Chicagoland Vampire series, just terrific.

Cat and Bones, definitely a hot couple – I’ve only read book 1. Oh and I’d like to say, based on the first book, Cat’s mom? I’d like to choke some sense into her. She is such a frustrating woman!

  25. @Donna I don’t know how you could stop after book 1 {Jeanine Frost}. I couldn’t stand not knowing what happened so I ran out, litteraly, to Borders and bought books 2-4. I pulled an all nighter and had to finish the series. I’ve had to come to terms with my scary book addiction ::pinches bridge of nose:: I really like Chole Neill, we need to tag team Kmont(Lurv A La Mode) and get her to re-read ‘em again *bwhahahahaha*

  26. Okay… So I’ve read all of the Nighthuntress books. (Have you read First Drop of Crimson yet? I fell in love with Spade)
And now you’ve had me ordering Nice Girls Don’t Have Fangs from amazon. I hope it’s as good as you say it is, the Nighthuntress series definitely is, and I’m so craving for more… Is there a way to get email subscriptions for this blog? That subscribe button only took me to this news feed site thingy with ‘live-bookmarks’ I never remember to check up on those, but my mail I check every day

Anyway, thanks for a really useful post!

  27. @Jasnette If you are in the mood for humor, Nice Girls Don’t Have Fangs is the book for you! Not as sexy as Nighthuntress books, but the humor more than makes up for it ;)

I read FDOC, very different than Night Huntresses. I liked it, didn’t fall in love with it.

We have a subscribe by email, located under the RSS feed, where you can receive posts by email instead of RSS feed ;)
