Drumroll Please…Introducing our A-Team of Authors

This is our ever-changing list of top paranormal authors who bring their “A-Game” to the table and never fail to disappoint.  We can’t wait for this list to keep growing. This is by no means the be all end all, it’s just our opinion of who we like and would whole-heartedly recommend to anyone who is interested in PR.

Christine Feehan- The woman who started it all. I fondly refer to her as the Mother of Paranormal Romance. I cut my teeth on her Carpathian Vampire series and although her stories are not quite as gritty as other paranormal authors she really set the tone for the genre of paranormal romance.  Her series can be a bit formulaic at times but our hats are off to Ms. Feehan for all that she has accomplished and for really  bringing paranormal romance out of the closet. Don’t forget her Ghost Walker series!!

Sherrilyn Kenyon- Has one of the most interesting and creative ways in which vampires are made. Ms. Kenyon’s Dark Hunter series commingles greek mythology with vampirism and really has a unique twist on the genesis of  vampires. She is a can’t miss author and her story-lines are not only fantastic but her ability to keep the  details of the characters authentic in each new book that she writes is a talent that is unrivaled. Ms. Kenyon is by far one of the more creative storytellers of our list.

Kresley Cole- Immortal After Dark series has to be one of our most favorite series.  The series is fresh, funny, sexy and just plain fun. Often times paranormal romance can be at times overly dramatic (what I refer to as the Danielle Steel Effect) and Ms. Cole has the ability to weave an incredible story that you truly do not want to end. Ms. Cole’s series has a bit of urban fantasy mixed in and has vampires, demons, lykae(werewolves), valkyrie, and more.

JR Ward- Back Daggar Brotherhood straddles the line (pun intended) between paranormal and urban fantasy. Ms. Ward has pissed off quite a many rabid, I mean avid fan with her hybrid series but we consider her Brotherhood males to be too delish to pass up.  Ms. Ward also has a new twist on the ol’ vampire story and sees them as a persecuted race living amongst humans and her ability to create this world is noteworthy. We are looking forward to her new Angel series.

Gena Showalter- is another author that fluctuates between PR and UF but she has a unique voice amongst our author list and her new demon series, lords of the underworld is great. C and I differ on our likability of her alien hunter series, (C being more a fan than I am) but we both truly enjoy her Atlantis series with her latest installment, The Vampire’s Bride as one of our favorites in the series. The great thing about Ms. Showalter is that her books get better with each release and we look forward to hearing more about her Lords of the Underworld based on a group of men cursed with evil demons.

Nalini Singh- has an almost sci-fi approach to PR and with her Psy/changeling series. In her series we live in an almost autistic world, free of the trappings of emotions, (think Christian Bale in Equilibrium) and with this emotionless world humans are able to have enhanced brain functions and are categorized on their ability to perform in this cerebral society. To offset this, amongst the Psy also exist a species of humans with the ability shape-shift and who rely upon animal instincts rather than the cool emotions of the Psy.  What we are most excited to report is Ms. Singh’s new Angel series which is absolutely fantastic and dare I say better than her Psy/Changeling series. We can’t wait for more installments of this series.

Larrisa Ione- Is our newest author on the map for 2008-2009 with her demonica series. This series chronicles demon brothers who run an Underworld hospital that exists in the human world. We can’t wait for more of her series to come out!

Stephanie Rowe- is what we like to term a ‘chick-lit’ paranormal author. She doesn’t really fit in the genre of paranormal romance but her first two books, Date me Baby One More Time and Must Love Dragons are uproariously funny. Her series has fizzeled out a bit, but her first two stories are great. Anyone who writes Satan as a love-sick lothario who refers to his ‘spawn’ as Satanette and Satan Jr. earns a gold star in our books.

Lora Leigh- breed series began as more erotica than anything else, but now Ms. Leigh has crossed over into the main-stream of PR. Ms. Leigh tends to excel at writing more of a novella than an entire book and her early installments of her series through Ellora’s Cave are her best. The ‘breeds’ were created by splicing human and animal DNA to create super soldiers. The horrific abuse by the genetics counsel and doctors in the labs to the breeds is fairly graphic so for those who are not into grit stay away. Overall, her series is good but at times is formulaic and characters seems to be copies of each other and there is rarely any actual development of the story-line other than to introduce more characters to write about. She’s still worth reading but do not expect the same level of storytelling as our other authors.

  1. Cool post!

I would add Jeaniene Frost author to the Night Huntress series. I think they are labeled UF/romance, but there is definitely lots of steamy scenes between Bones and Cat:)

Another favorite is Colleen Gleason, her Gardella Vampire Chronicle series is done at five book, but it was one of the best I have read. Historical Romance meets vampire hunters:)
